Presidents XI vs Kings CCBAT DOMINATES BALL IN PRESIDENTS MATCH
AS PERRY AND MIAH SEE KINGS HOME
KINGS CC vs. PRESIDENT'S XI
(Presidents XI batted first. Kings won by 9 wickets)
After a few seasons break it was welcoming that there was a return to the staging of the President's match. The game was played on an excellent batting track on a late summers afternoon, which despite forecasts of cloud and drizzle later in the day forunately never materialised and the game was played in the most part in warm sunshine. The Presidents team included prolific scoring Ellis Miah from Kempton, along with sister Shannon, as well as other representative from Kempton and other sides. Also included was Dave Blissett and Paul Davis reprsenting Kings, whilst the surprise package was Life Vice President Phil Murphy who last played for Kings in their tour matches in 2002.

The President elected to bat first and his side got off to a flying start at Ellis Miah hit the ground running with some superb shots off his brother Joel. This set a pattern for the overs that followed as Ellis drove, cut and pulled with ease with a never ending flurry of boundaries. Only Richard Sones seem to keep him in check, and the chance to dismiss came off Sones, when he drove powerfully back to the bowler who could only parry the chance of return catch. Even when Kings brought on leading wicket taker Simon Pipe to replace Joel Miah the scoring did not abate. In Ellis duly reached his fifty, only 6 runs of which did not come in boundaries. Sones look unfortunate to get a good leg before shout against Miah turned down, a life that saw the batsman continue in his charge towards three figures. After the explosive start Kings were however keeping the scoring rate in check, and by the 20th over the score was 81 without loss. Kings soon introduced the slower bowling of Jaemie Gale and Richad Warne and the breakthough eventually came when 5th over Warne had Miah caught behind by Smith for quite magificent 94, out of a stand of 124 with Trevor Warne. His innings including no less than 17 boundary fours. A short stand between Trevor Warne and President Dave Miah followed before the former was well caught at gulley Nangle for a solid 43 to give Gale a wicket (144-2). Despite a couple of fine shots the President was snapped up by sharp catch by Wright in the slips to give Warne his second wicket (154-3). However a partnership then started to develop between Murphy and Blissett before Pipe returned to the attack to bowl Murphy (184-4). With 37 overs bowled Blissett knew that runs were needed to be added quickly to set up a declaration, and against his team mate he did not disappoint. With some lusty shots down the ground and over mid wicket he peppered the boundary with two sixes and 7 fours to take him past fifty. Having added 55 in quick time the declaration duly arrived with the score on 239, Blissett unbeaten on 63, but the innings had been set up by the innings of Ellis Miah.

Kings led off with Paul Nangle and Dave Perry opening and they made an excellent start with Perry playing Shannon Miah with due respect but whilst also taking the opportunity to score. Nangle was equally as impressive against Murphy, pulling the bowler to the square boundary in quick succession. By the 10th over Kings had set a base at over 6 runs an over, and they continued to push hard when Osbourne was introduced to the attack. However in the bowlers 2nd over he had an lbw appeal upheld against Nangle, who was out for agressive 36, his partner also on the same score (81-1). What followed was a master class in batting as Perry and Joel Miah set about the target with gusto. With Murphy being replaced by Decosta both batsmen was quick to take advantage, with some excellent running, including an all run five, the bowlers were never able to build any pressure, soon after Perry reached his half century. Despite a tight spell from Ellis Miah the batsmen were still able to plunder runs the other end, Perry twice despatching Decosta for six, whilst Miah brilliantly worked the ball into the gaps and despatched the bad ball to the boundary with style. As the President mixed his bowlers to try and seek a breakthrough nothing was going to stop the Kings batsmen. Trevor Warne's introduction failed to put a brake on the scoring, Perry again hitting a maximum before he went to a deserved 100, his 9th of his Kings career, with his 12th boundary four. Joel Miah then reached his richly deserved half century, his fourth of the season, before Perry wrapped the game up by hitting Wilsdon's first over for 4,6,4,4 to take his total to a career best of 128, including 4 sixes, 15 fours, 1 five. Joel Miah finished 55 not out to maintain his excellent form this season. Victory had been secured by 9 wickets with 7 overs left, and batting to spare. The 2nd wicket partnership between Perry and Miah was an unbeaten 162
