Kings vs Chalfont St PeterGALE SPINS IT KINGS' WAY Kings CC vs. Chalfont St. Peter CC Sunday 11th July - Chalfont St Peter won the toss Kings won by 7 wickets Following their tour the previous week Kings welcomed new opponents in Chalfont St Peter to Kempton on a warm and sunny afternoon. The visitors having won the toss elected to bat first on what was a dry and dusty pitch with a baked outfield. Kings were able to bring in Dave Blissett and Jaemie Gale to boost the tired limbs of the previous weeks tourists. The early stages were a cagey affair with the opening batsmen content with picking up the occasional runs, usually with the assistance of the lightning fast outfield. Kings gained the breakthrough when Pipe enticed Beevor to hit on the up and Nangle took a good catch at point. A second wicket came when Gale took a superb catch low down at cover to reward the efforts of Sones. The two Cottam brothers then looked to settle the innings, playing back and into the on side. Pipe should have had a wicket when the ball was lofted to mid on, but Blissett, statue like watched the ball float over his head. However when I Cottam push the ball to mid on and called for a run he took on Joel Miah, whose laser like throw hit the middle stump with the batsman short of his ground. Despite some lusty blows from the visitors Captain the introduction of Gale really swung the game Kings way. The other Cottam played back to a ball that went onto to hit off stump, and then Alexis was bowled that picthed on leg, and hit off stump. Miah was unlucky not to get a wicket when the ball slid off the bat face to Sones at gulley but his one handed lunge saw the ball go down. Gale was to strike again when Pommers was smartly stumped by Smith and then Miah did not get in on the act. Firstly his hit the top of leg stump to remove Bennett and then soon after he had Ross dragging a ball on to this stumps. Gale picked up a 4th wicket when Doorman drilled a drive and Nangle at short cover who not only did well to get a hand to it, but did even well to parry the ball and spun round to pocket the rebound. The sorry tale for the visitors came to an end when the last man skied the ball back toward the bowler Joel Miah. However Miah just failed to reach the ball but had the presence of mind to react quickly to collect the ball and seeing the batsman out of his ground, threw down the stumps defeating the desperate dive of the batsman to claim his second run out of the game. The visitors setting Kings just 98 runs to win Kings made a reasonable start with Perry and Nangle batting well in the opening overs. Both batsmen made the most of the fast outfield with some punched drives which flew the boundary. It was somewhat a surprise when Perry was caught off the glove to be caught behind (41-1). Nangle was in no mood to hand around and he hit 3 successive boundaries off the leg spinner, he raced to 37 before he was stumped (72-2). Blissett and Daye continued to punish the bad ball, Blissett crashing to short balls outside of off stump to the boundary. When Daye was caugtht at mid on it brought Miah to the crease and he quickly struck the two boundaries that were needed to take Kings to victory with plenty of overs to spare
