Eversley vs KingsKINGS TOO STRONG FOR YOUTHFUL EVERSLEY EVERSLEY C.C. vs. KINGS C.C. Sunday 18th July 2010 Kings won by 53 runs Kings visited picturesque Eversley cricket club to face a youthful Academy XI which boasted some very promising young players, including some with Hampshire representative status. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch which with a dry hard pitch with a green tinge which promised some assistance to the bowlers. The bowling was opened by Lazenbury and Tresise - both of whom bowled with pace and achieved some away swing. Both bowlers gave a stern test to opening batsmen Perry and Melligan. Early runs were hard to come by and Kings were happy to pick up some runs down to the third man boundary. With the bowlers beating the outside edge regularly Kings were battling hard not to lose an early wicket. Perry started to score more freely with three fine boundaries. However soon after Perry then chipped to midwicket (33-1) and then Melligan was caught behind (33-2) and from a solid start Kings were on the back foot. Joel Miah and Paul Nangle then set about rebuilding the innings, their first task to see off the opening bowlers. Lazenbury finish a very impressive spell of 7 overs in which he conceded just 8 runs. Miah was unlucky, every well timed shot finding a fielder, whilst Nangle superbly pulled a short ball to the boundary. There was a couple of close leg before appeals before Nangle again pulled superbly to the boundary. Miah then broke the shackles with a fine cover drive. As the bowlers searched for another breakthrough the batsmen started to dominate, Nangle was the more fluent of the two, dispatching some fine boundaries, whilst Miah continued to battle hard. Nangle reached a highly impressive half century before after attempting a 3rd run he was run out for 57 (131-3). Kings lost their 4th wicket soon after when Miah was bowled by Elcox for a battling 37 (138-4). With Simon Pipe and Owen Mears at the crease Kings now looked to push on, Pipe was quickly into his stride and smashed some superb shots to the cover boundary, before Mears hit Elcox down the ground. Unfortunately a well disguised slower ball then accounted for Mears, caught at cover (157-5). Pipe continued to impress with some superb shots through covers and down the ground and despite losing Tighe in a push for runs (175-6) Pipe was in total control and his assault on the bowling continued in taking the score past the 200 mark where upon the innings was declared. The Eversley innings got off to a tight start before Miah struck in the third over when Berger-North drove straight to Mears at mid off who had little trouble in taking his 100th outfied catch (5-1). Kings were made to wait for the next breakthrough as Daye struggle for an over or so with his line and length. However in the 11th over Elcox drove Miah to Gale (42-2). Miah should have had a third catch when a skied ball seemed a simple chance for Nangle but the ball was spilled. By now Daye had rediscovered his form and he struck twice in quick succession. Firstly Nangle caught Elcox (59-3) and then Manning was adjudged leg before (60-4). The game was then affectlvely won as Gale was introduced, he had Parvess caught by Pipe (64-5) and then despite a counter attacking innings from Tresise, Kings leg spinner continued to be threat and he claimed the next wicket M Lazenbury was adjudged leg before (100-6). Two more quick strikes from Gale, with Kirk being caught close in by Melligan (112-7) and then Trisise was also caught by Melligan when trying a reverse sweep (115-8) put Kings in total control. Gale's 5th wicket came when he spun one past the defense of Captain Tresise (136-9) and the game was won when Gale took his sixth wicket when last man Thomas was caught at point by Miah.
